Dear Friends,
Thank you for your letter
of 20 June, addressed to President of the European Council Charles Michel regarding
the EU membership status for Georgia. The President has asked me to reply to your
letter.
Let me stress that the European
Council adopted the Council conclusions on 24 June, expressing the readiness to
grant the status of candidate country to Georgia once the priorities specified in
the Commission’s opinion on Georgia’s membership application have been addressed.
The European Council clearly recognized the European perspective of Georgia and
reiterated that the future of the country and its citizens lay with the EU.
The EU remains committed to
continue to further strengthening ties and deepening its partnership to support
Georgia, in line with our Association Agreement including supporting human rights
and people with disabilities.
Yours sincerely,
